The Norseman X-Country Ski School
Cross-country skiing is a FUN, healthy and lifelong winter activity that everyone can Enjoy! For maximum pleasure while cross country skiing, a lesson is a great way to learn correct techniques and use less energy and effort for maximum enjoyment! Our lessons also are great for skiers who want to improve or refresh their technique.
At the Norseman ski school we offer introductory lessons on level terrain and hill maneuvering techniques for Cross country skiing. Full Circle Adventures has been contracted to teach the Norseman XC ski school again this year, our instructors are CANSI certified and work with you to provide the most efficient learning techniques for the time you are at the lesson. All lessons cater to beginner and intermediate skiers.
Beginner skiers
- After three lessons you will be able to ski most green trails and parts of the blue in Kananaskis country.
Intermediate skiers
- Improve your technique to use less effort, less muscle power and get better glide!
- Re-experience the joy of gliding along the winter trails on your new cross country skis!
Don’t let the hills get you down, the next XC Hill lesson starts Dec. 17th and lessons go on through January and February, so get out and enjoy the season.

Course Schedule
Intro to Cross Country Skiing – Flat terrain - half day Wednesdays
This class us a great way to get introduced to the sport of cross country skiing. Learn the basics of level terrain techniques including how to glide, stride and stop and to safely ski in the tracks. Course takes place at Peter Lougheed Provincial Park (PLPP) at the Pocaterra Hut. We suggest you rent waxless skis unless you have your own skis.
Adult lessons: $45 per person (Youth 14 and up)

BC3 Wed. Feb 8 9:30 - 12:30

Flat Terrain Intro course and review class - Full day outing
This is a full day class on learning and improving the diagonal stride technique for skiing on the flats. Improve your balance, weight transfer, gliding from ski to ski and propulsion. In addition, double poling and one step double pole may be introduced. Course takes place at Peter Lougheed Provincial Park (PLPP) at the Pocaterra Hut. We suggest you rent waxless skis unless you have your own skis.

Beginner - hill basics – ½ day Wednesdays
Start with learning to control your speed on easy hills. These half day courses gently introduce you to the basics of hill skills including fall and getting up on a hill and all up and downhill techniques. Course takes place at Peter Lougheed Provincial Park at the Pocaterra Hut. We suggest you rent waxless skis unless you have your own skis.

Basic Hill Technique for XC skiing – Full Day
Aimed at skiers who have completed level terrain lessons or who have good, basic classic ski skills and want to learn to tackle the hills. Improve balance and gain confidence on the hills, both up and down them. Learn herring bone, snowplow stops and turns and turning on a corner are all part of this introductory class. This course takes place at the Peter Lougheed Provincial Park Visitor’s Information Centre in Kananaskis country .
Adult lessons: $70 per person. (Youth 14 and up)

Putting it all together – Cross Country Ski Tour
This class combines all the hill and level terrain techniques you have learned and
puts them into action out on a tour. Learn where to apply each technique on the
trails, link up your one step double pole with your uphill herring bone. Ski the trails at Boulton Creek, Elk Pass or Ribbon Creek ski areas.
Adult lessons: $70 per person. (Youth 14 and up)

Cancellation Policy
We reserve the right to re-schedule a program if there are insufficient registrations – you will be able to reschedule or get a full refund. We will attempt to provide at least 2 days notice. Course locations are subject to change due to snow conditions, we will have the instructor contact you should this happen.
Lessons post-poned due to weather will be re-scheduled.

Full day lessons:
Adult lessons: $70 per person. (Youth 14 and up)
Group lessons: $60 per person (min 6)
Semi-private lessons: $95 per person (3 or 4 people)
Bring your lunch, water, a hot drink, winter ski clothes, day pack, extra layers, sunscreen, personal 1st aid needs, ski equipment and a change of shoes or boots.
Lunch will be indoors.
Half - day Lessons:
Adult lessons: $45 per person (Youth 14 and up)
Group lessons: $40 per person (min 6)
Family lessons: $135 per family of 4
Private lessons: $135 per person (1 or 2 people)
Lessons occur: at Pocaterra Day Use, Peter Lougheed Visitor’s information centre or Ribbon Creek day use area. All of these locations are in Kananaskis country, an hour drive west of Calgary.
If conditions permit, the location will be changed to: Shaganappi Golf course, Crystal Ridge golf course, in Okotoks, or West Bragg Creek. You will be contacted if the location changes.
NOTE: Lessons are subject to cancellation or re-scheduling due to poor or unsafe driving conditions, poor snow conditions or temperatures below -18 Celsius!
You will be contacted if these conditions occur, the lesson will be re-scheduled.
